What do you all think? Pro-phone, anti-phone, or a nuanced in between? When does it cross the line? How do you feel about artists asking their audiences to not extensively record? Are there actions that bother you at concerts that you wish would more widely be discouraged? Adele has told fans to stop recording, Mitski caused a stir putting out a statement about it last year, and artists like Madonna, Jack White, and Bob Dylan have had shows where phone usage is completely banned during the set. That said, fans hold strong views on both sides of the debate, but some artists do as well.

I've also recorded stuff and felt like it was a waste of time to do so later. Living in the age of social media, I've felt before that I would regret if I didn't record something, whether it be for personal memory or to share later on. When you take a moment and just think about it, it is a very new and strange phenomenon to record an entire concert as a fan, but I'm curious if anyone else reading this ever feels compelled to do so. Whether it be concert, milestones in our life, pieces at a museum, or parties we attend. I think this is just a small facet of a broader shift in our culture toward documenting everything, especially to then broadcast on social media. I've seen it mentioned before here, but I would love to know what you all think broadly, as many of us attend concerts, have others around us recording the show, or might even have our phones up as well. Looking closer over various shots of the audience, though, I noticed that every single person on the floor had their phones up, right between their faces and the stage. Watching the new Weeknd: Live at SoFi Stadium concert film, I was really struck by how dead the audience was, especially for the well-known, hype songs.
